Government speaks out for truthful partnership between public, private sectors

Prime Minister Pavel Filip has had a meeting with representatives of the European Business Association (EBA), which represents a wide range of companies and the biggest investors from Moldova.   

The Prime Minister said the concerned meeting was aimed at learning from the first source the perception of EBA representatives on the evolution of the business environment, to see their opinion on the government’s work and establish actions of cooperation in order to achieve the objectives set.  

Pavel Filip reviewed the government’s priorities in the social and economic sector. He stressed that the government had a strong will and determination to promote true reforms and there was an efficient cooperation with the parliament, and so the authorities managed to advance in more sectors. “An important goal is the Agreement with the International Monetary Fund, which will also mean unlocking of the financing from other development partners of Moldova. We are prepared for the negotiations with the IMF team of experts, due to come to Chisinau in early next July. We know what we have to do on the immediately next period and now it is important that we have stability and predictability, including in order to ensure  friendly conditions for the development of the business environment and attracting investments into the country’s economy,” the Prime Minister said.    

A significant topic of the discussion was focused on the work of the Economic Council, achievements and problems in the promotion of the ideas set forth by business environment’s representatives in the dialogue with the central authorities. In this context, EBA Executive Director Marian Rufa unveiled an analysis of the situation and the vision of the Association’s members on this subject. In EBA’s opinion, the platform of communication within the Economic Council was useful and necessary, and had presently two working groups: the first one is focused on removing constraints on business and the second – on facilitating the cross-border trade.      

The participants in the meeting highlighted that the business environment over the last time had noticed more positive aspects in the government’s activity and made a string of proposals on removing vulnerabilities from Moldova’s economic system. They opted for an as urgent as possible promotion of measures on amending the legislation concerning the state controls and implementation of a single register of state controls, as well as for carrying out the reform of permissive documents.    

The participants in the meeting also discussed measures to strengthen the banking system and enhance the confidence in the financial sector of Moldova – an essential element for developing investments. Besides, they stressed the need to observe the procedure of Regulation Impact Assessment while working out and adopting the state’s policies in diverse sectors, as well as to efficiently implement the strategies and policies developed, so that they yield the results expected both  by the business and residents.   

The agenda of the debates also included subjects on development of the information technologies sector, public administration reform and consolidation of the institutional capacities of the state’s structures.  

The sides also agreed to maintain a permanent dialogue, including on the Economic Council’s platform, in order to support the business environment, attract investments and for Moldova’s social and economic development.
