Pavel Filip at the meeting with Jean-Claude Juncker: Moldovan authorities speak out for boosting Moldova - EU partnership

Moldova’s development priorities and the importance of the partnership of cooperation with the European Union were the main subjects tackled at a meeting between Prime Minister Pavel Filip and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. The event took place within an official visit to Brussels by the Moldovan Prime Minister.  

 

At the meeting, the prime minister gave assurances that both the government and the parliament’s majority coalition were determined to continue the European course of the country and implement the reforms assumed. At the same time, Pavel Filip noted that Moldova had managed to return to a normal pace of relations with EU and the Chisinau authorities would take efforts to boost the partnership in continuation.  

 

“We will appreciate your support for Moldova’s request of macro-financial assistance on behalf of the European Union. This assistance is complementary to the programme agreed upon with IMF and will allow us building a prosperous economy and returning among the leaders of the Eastern Partnership,” Pavel Filip said.    

At the same time, the prime minister reiterated that the investigation of the bank fraud represented one of the priorities of the cabinet of ministers and that all those involved were to be sanctioned under the law. In the context, Pavel Filip said that, due to the measures undertaken this your, the leadership had managed to strengthen the institutional framework needed to ensure the independence of justice, fight corruption, reform the Prosecution.    

 

For his part, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker appreciated the Moldovan cabinet’s achievements, including in implementing the Roadmap. At the same time, Jean-Claude Juncker stressed the importance of an in-depth approach in consolidating the institutional efficiency in Moldova, due to generate changes in citizens’ lives. 

 

The officials also exchanged opinions on measures to strengthen the society and settle the Transnistrian conflict.
