346 thousand residents of the Transnistrian region hold the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova

According to the information provided by the Public Services Agency, on June 30, 2022, in the State Population Register, 355 013 residents living on the left side of the Nistru River and in the municipality of Bender were recorded, out of which 345 888 hold the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, 321 532 hold Moldovan passports and 287 947 hold Moldovan identity cards.

In the first semester of 2022, 6030 national civil status documents were issued to applicants from the Transnistrian region, and 2825 duplicates were issued upon request.

At the same time, according to the data from the State Register of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs and in accordance with the provisions of Government Decision No. 815/2005, it is certified that 2312 economic agents from the Transnistrian region are registered in the Republic of Moldova.

We notice a continuously growing pattern of requesting national model driving licenses based on the exchange mechanism offered to people residing in the Transnistrian region, possessing regional documents and identity documents approved by the Law no. 273/1994. For instance, during the period of January 2017-June 2022, 26 395 Moldovan driving licenses were obtained by the Transnistrian residents.

All these figures emphasize the fact that the residents and entrepreneurs carrying out foreign commercial economic transactions from the eastern districts of the country are documented in their vast majority with documents issued by the competent authorities of the Republic of Moldova and comply with the rigors of the working national legislation.
