PM Dorin Recean visits two agricultural businesses in Drochia district

Prime Minister Dorin Recean has visited two peasant farms in the northern region of Moldova, specializing in the cultivation of vegetables, cereals, fruit trees and walnuts.
In the village of Hasnasenii Noi, the PM visited Andrei Leontiev, a young farmer growing tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and other vegetables. The entrepreneur said that he had started his work in 2015, gradually expanding the land area from 2 hectares to 98 hectares. He now owns modern greenhouses where he is testing new varieties of tomatoes.
To enhance and expand his business, Andrei Leontiev received support from the government, as well as from foreign partners, provided through various projects. Through the Agency for Intervention and Payments for Agriculture (AIPA), he accessed resources for endowment with agricultural machinery and equipment, compensation of excise duties on diesel fuel, construction and modernization of greenhouses, setting of irrigation equipment, building a water reservoir and setting up a grain storage depot.
The peasant farm employs 7 people, with an additional 70 people involved in seasonal work. The vegetables grown by Andrei Leontiev's farm are sold in major commercial networks of the country.
In Zgurita, Prime Minister Dorin Recean visited the agricultural business of Ion Gavrilita. His activity is unique due to the nursery species he grows and exports, both as saplings and fruit - Chandler, a high-productivity American variety, well-adapted to Moldova’s climate.
In total, the farmer owns 33 hectares of walnut and 8.5 hectares of plum. He sells grafted walnut trees, both domestically and abroad, in Romania, Armenia and Ukraine.
At the same time, the farmer explores other activity segments and has received subsidies for purchasing 80 bee families. With government’s support, he has managed to buy agricultural machinery and equipment and will soon receive subsidies for the renewal of plantations.
In discussions with the farmers, Prime Minister Dorin Recean conveyed a message of encouragement and commitment to the continued support of the agricultural sector. "You are clear examples that, through hard work, vision, and proper support, agriculture can become a sustainable and innovative business," the prime minister told the farmers.
