Clearer rules for sanctioning traffic violations committed with vehicles registered in other countries
Drivers who violate road traffic rules in the Republic of Moldova using vehicles registered in other countries will be identified more easily and sanctioned more quickly. The Government has approved an amendment to the Contravention Code to establish clearer rules in this regard.
Currently, the law provides general procedures for establishing and sanctioning contraventions, but it does not regulate clearly enough situations in which violations are committed with vehicles registered abroad. The new provisions will allow the exchange of information with authorities in other states in order to identify vehicle owners and the persons who committed the violations.
The amendments will contribute to more efficient enforcement of sanctions and to ensuring equal rules for all drivers, whether they are from the Republic of Moldova or from other countries. At the same time, they will help enhance road traffic safety. It is worth mentioning that, starting from 2022, there has been a decrease in the number of road accidents. Compared to last year, the number of people who died in road accidents has decreased by 10%.
The objective is to continue preventing road accidents and to increase citizens’ safety in traffic through joint efforts, both legislative and related to improving road safety, including appropriate road signs, improving the culture of road users, and firm actions by the police.
