Prime Minister has meeting with oil products importers
Developments on the fuel market in the context of the war in the Middle East, as well as the measures needed to maintain a stable supply of Moldova have been discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and oil products’ importers.
„It is important that we work together – the state and private sector operators – to identify reasonable solutions, because we are talking about a strategic sector and about the country’s energy security. Our priority is to maintain a stable fuel supply for citizens, the economy and all essential state services,” the Prime Minister said.
According to the PM, the government has activated the mechanisms provided for crisis management and continues coordination with the National Crisis Management Center, the responsible institutions and market operators, in order to prevent possible disruptions in supply. The authorities are also closely monitoring developments on international markets, where there is a pronounced upward trend in fuel prices, both globally and regionally.
The participants in the meeting analyzed more options and mechanisms that could be applied, so that any potential price increases are gradual and do not have a sudden impact on Moldova’s consumers. “There are things that are beyond our control, especially global prices for energy resources and oil products, but we will do everything within our power to maintain a stable supply of fuels and energy resources,” said Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu.
It should be recalled that, on March 4, the government introduced a state of alert in the energy sector in connection with the external situation, in order to maintain the stability of the energy system. Unlike the state of emergency, which entails a strict regime, the state of alert is a preventive measure that allows the authorities to act more rapidly and to coordinate the competent institutions more efficiently, so that available energy resources can cover, as a priority, the domestic consumption of Moldova.
