The Joint Control Commission was notified of Tiraspol’s free movement restriction on the representatives of the OSCE mission to the Republic of Moldova

On 14 July, 2022, during a working meeting of the Joint Control Commission in the city of Bender, discussions on the current situation in the Security Zone were resumed.

A new weekly report presented by the Joint Military Command demonstrated the maintenance of the posts that were unilaterally installed by Tiraspol starting with April 26 this year, under the pretext of an alleged terrorist threats.

The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova reiterated its position on the illegal and provocative nature of the actions of the Transnistrian force structures undertaken without the decision of the Joint Control Commission and called for the unconditional withdrawal of the posts from the perimeter of responsibility of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces.

The representatives of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, which carry out monitoring tasks of the Security Zone, have notified the Commission that they are intimidated and restricted on their free movement by the Transnistrian force structures. Therefore, starting with July 11, the monitoring teams of the OSCE Mission to Moldova were forcibly “accompanied” by exponents of the structures subordinated to Tiraspol. Moreover, the Transnistrian "attendants" denied the monitoring team access to the city of Grigoriopol.

The OSCE Mission to Moldova evaluated the actions of the Transnistrian force structures as a serious violation of the principle of free movement.

During the debates, the Chisinau delegation strongly condemned the illegal actions that were premeditatedly organized by Tiraspol against the representatives of the OSCE Mission to Moldova and demanded the immediate cessation of any further obstructions to the free movement in the Security Zone.

We remind that the OSCE Mission to Moldova operates in the Security Zone in accordance with the “Principles of Cooperation between the OSCE Mission and the Joint Control Commission”, signed on December 10, 2004, holding the mandate to provide to the Commission the necessary support in attaining the objective of the Agreement signed on July 21, 1992 regarding the principles of peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.

During the meeting, attempts to find a consensus on the issue of illegal posts failed due to the destructive and provocative behavior of the Transnistrian delegation.
