A new meeting of the working groups on car transport and infrastructure development took place after a break of seven months

Today, April 20, 2022, after a break of 7 months, a new online meeting of the working groups on car transport and infrastructure development was convened, with the participation of experts from both banks of the Nistru River and representatives of mediators and observers within the "5 + 2" negotiation format.

The experts' discussions focused on the functionality of the registration points of the means of transport in Tiraspol and Râbnița and the need to fully restore their activity in order to provide the full range of vehicle documentation services in the region in accordance with the provisions of the Protocol Decision of April 24, 2018, Law no. 170/2018 and the Government Decision no. 847/2018.

Tiraspol representatives addressed the issue of license plates with symbols not approved by the working regulatory framework that were retained by the national law enforcement authorities on December 22, 2021, and returned to the proposal to extend the mechanism of documentation with neutral numbers on means of transport that carry out commercial activities, specifying on the first topic that the authorities empowered by law are to decide, and regarding the second aspect the positions of Chisinau have been repeatedly stated previously.

In turn, experts from Chisinau appreciated as inadmissible Tiraspol's unilateral actions against drivers with Moldovan license plates and registration numbers who are forced to pay additional and unfair payments for the use of road infrastructure in localities on the left bank of the Nistru river and Bender municipality, for the procurement of other categories of vignettes than those approved by the competent national authorities. The experts from Chisinau also requested from Tiraspol to abandon differentiated approaches applied in relation to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

Some difficulties encountered by public road passenger transport operators on both banks of the Nistru River were also discussed, as well as the willingness to help identify viable solutions to these problems.
