The Topic of Illegal Checkpoints Discussed at the Meeting of the Joint Control Commission

Another meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) took place today in Bender.

During the meeting, discussions on the current situation in the perimeter of the Security Zone (SZ) and the manner in which the basic acts of the peacekeeping operation on the Nistru River are respected were resumed.

Considering that at today's meeting, as well as during the last three months, the Commission did not approve a decision on the issue of illegally installed posts, and at the same time, taking into account that August is a break period in the activity of JCC, the Delegation of the Republic of Moldova submitted a request to the Commission, requesting the sides to refrain from unilateral actions of jeopardizing the activity of the peacekeeping process in the SZ.

The request was presented in the context in which previously, during August, in the previous years, the military formations of the Transnistrian region carried out military maneuvers in the SZ with the involvement of troops and military equipment.

The representatives of the OSCE Mission in Moldova have repeatedly informed the Commission about the fact that they are intimidated and their free movement in the Security Zone is restricted in the Security Zone, as mentioned in the previous press release: https://gov.md/ro/content/comisia-unificata-de-control-sesizata-despre-restrictionarea-de-catre-tiraspol-liberei.

The Commission also examined the reports of the Joint Military Command for the periods July 13 to 19, and July 20 to 26, 2022, respectively, which reflected the presence of the posts unilaterally installed by Tiraspol starting from April 26, this year.

Attempts to find a consensus on the issue of illegal posts failed again due to the destructive and provocative behavior of the Transnistrian delegation.
