Weekly meeting of the Joint Control Commission
On April 21, 2022, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova traveled to Bender where the weekly meeting of the Joint Control Commission took place.
The incident related to the abusive stopping of Moldovan delegation members that took place a week earlier at the illegal post controlled by Tiraspol was the central topic discussed during the debates on the report of the Joint Military Command on the situation in the Security Zone for April 13-19, 2022.
Tiraspol's provocative and unprecedented actions against Chisinau's representatives and the reaction of the peacekeeping mission were reflected in a statement by the Moldovan delegation.
The illegality of the presence of so-called ”border troops” in the Security Zone has been highlighted. Having no connection with the peacekeeping mission, the so-called ”border troops” keep the Joint Control Commission from exercising its powers as prescribed in the Agreement of July 21, 1992.
Other violations recently admitted by Transnistrian law enforcement agencies have been revealed, including the installation of new modular constructions at the “border guard” posts in Gâsca on March 23, but also near the Coşnița commune at the intersection of Dubasari-Coşnița-Grigoriopol roads, which was committed on April 16, on a non-working day, after midnight. This consolidation of the infrastructure of the illegal post was undertaken even though the mayor of Coşnița commune had previously notified the Commission that the post was obstructing the free movement in the Security Zone, including that of the owners of agricultural lands located beyond the Tiraspol-Râbnița road.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova drew the attention of the representatives of the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the OSCE Mission that such destructive actions distance the positions of the sides, disrupt the peacekeeping mechanisms and may have unpredictable consequences.
Since during the examination of these issues the Transnistrian delegation did not stop putting the actions of the so-called "border guards" above the peacekeeping mission, the parties failed to approve a relevant decision and the meeting was adjourned.
Comisia urmează să se întrunească din nou la 28 aprilie curent, iar discuțiile asupra subiectului vor fi reluate.
