Weekly meeting of the Joint Control Commission
On May 5, 2022, the weekly meeting of the Joint Control Commission was held in Bender with the participation of delegations from the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Transnistrian region, representatives of Ukraine and the OSCE Mission to Moldova.
The subjects of the agenda approved on April 21 were resumed, the examination of which was interrupted at that time due to the attempts of the Tiraspol delegation to cover the iniquities of the so-called "border guards" unilaterally installed in the Security Zone.
In the context of the incident on April 14, 2022, when the members of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova, being on their way to the weekly meeting of the JCC, were blocked and abusively stopped at the “border guard” post controlled by Tiraspol. The delegation from Chisinau emphasized the provocative nature of the actions against state officials, which turned out to be meticulously planned by Tiraspol.
The statement of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova highlighted the intention of the representatives of the Transnistrian region to modify the format of the peacekeeping mission on the Nistru River, by restricting access to the Security Zone for members of the diplomatic corps and illegally forcing them to notify Tiraspol on at least three days-notice about travels in the region.
Thus, the representatives delegated to JCC by Ukraine were prevented from attending the meeting on April 28, which could not be held because of this.
Similarly, on April 24-26, 2022, a series of intimidations by so-called “border guards” against representatives of the OSCE Mission to Moldova took place. They were groundlessly forbidden from traveling through the Security Zone to monitor the situation.
The described actions reaffirm Tiraspol's undisguised defiance of the Agreement of 21 July 1992 and of the role of the JCC in controlling the situation in the Security Zone.
The increasingly frequent attempts of Tiraspol to replace the peacemaking mechanisms with its own unconstitutional structures were also elucidated during this meeting by the delegation of the Republic of Moldova. In order to rule out such situations in the future, the Chisinau delegation made relevant proposals, with the parties taking a break for further consultations.
