Weekly meeting of the Joint Control Commission
The Joint Control Commission met on May 19, 2022 in the city of Bender, resuming its examination of the situation in the Security Zone and the manner in which the basic acts of the peacekeeping operation on the Nistru River are being observed.
The focus was on the abusive stopping, on April 14, of the Moldovan delegation by the so-called "border guards" at the illegal post at the entrance to the city of Bender.
The incident is reflected in the report of the Joint Military Command, on which the Commission will take a decision to ensure that such cases are excluded in the future for not only officials but also other citizens traveling through the Security Zone.
Tiraspol officials oppose acknowledging that the alleged "border guards" find themselves illegally in the area of responsibility of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces and endanger free movement.
The debates were held both in an enlarged format with the participation of all JCC members and at the level of joint co-chairs with the representatives of Ukraine and the OSCE Mission.
However, the disagreements were not overcome at yesterday's meeting, and the principle of consensus did not allow the Commission to take a relevant decision.
The sides agreed that they would return to the matter in a week's time.
