Joint meeting of the experts in the health area and of the political representatives in the process of negotiations for the Transnistrian settlement

Today, at the headquarters of the OSCE Mission to Moldova in Chisinau, the meeting of the working groups for health care took place, with the participation of political representatives in the negotiation process for the Transnistrian settlement from Chisinau, Oleg Serebrian and Tiraspol, Vitalii Ignatiev.

Discussions focused on the difficulties faced by economic agents in the Transnistrian region in the process of obtaining import authorizations for medicines not registered in the profile registers of the Republic of Moldova, in the context of cessation of activity at Moldovan-Ukrainian state border crossing points on the central (Transnistrian) segment and their transportation through other national customs points.

Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian pointed out that all requests for authorization to import medicines for the inhabitants of the Transnistrian region are examined as a matter of priority, including in the light of the terms of point 4 of Provision no. 10 of the Commission for Exceptional Situations of the Republic of Moldova of March 15, 2022.

At the same time, it was mentioned that there are no artificial impediments created by the Moldovan authorities to import medicines in the region, and the requests received are processed and examined in restricted terms by the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices.

The Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health, Zinaida Bezverhnîi, the leader of the working group from Chisinau, stressed that all procedural aspects of medicine authorization are carried out in strict accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Moldova and are based on the priority of protecting the lives of citizens residing on both banks of the Dniester River and the non-admission of low-quality products distribution on the market.

Chisinau has proposed a further examination of existing issues at a forthcoming technical working meeting, where experts together with licensed distributors will discuss and identify viable solutions and potential steps that can be taken in order to continuously provide residents of the region with the necessary medicines.
