Weekly meeting of the Joint Control Commission
The weekly meeting of the Joint Control Commission was held in Bender on May 12, and was attended by delegations from the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Transnistrian region, representatives of Ukraine and the OSCE Mission to Moldova.
The participants resumed the examination of the incident that took place 4 weeks before at the "border guard" station illegally installed at the entrance to the city of Bender. At that time, the members of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova were abusively stopped by the alleged "border guards" who also tried to perform a search of the vehicle of the delegation.
Chisinau condemned the provocative actions of the Transnistrian enforcing structures, which exposed their absolute defiance of the peacekeeping operation on the Nistru River. In order to discourage such abuses in the future, Chisinau proposed to take decisions in this regard.
The representatives of Tiraspol avoided a constructive discussion proposed by the other sides of the Commission. They rejected the Moldovan delegation's proposals, refused to give assurances that such incidents would no longer be allowed, and opted to adjourn the meeting.
The Joint Control Commission is to meet again on May 19, 2022, with the same topics on the agenda.
